Information You Provide
- Image Data: When you upload a photo of a restaurant check, we temporarily process this image to extract item information.
Automatically Collected Information
- Technical Information: We may collect basic technical data such as your browser type, operating system, and IP address for service functionality and troubleshooting purposes.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process your uploaded images to extract check items using the Google Gemini API
- Provide and improve our Service
- Respond to technical issues or support requests
Data Storage and Processing
Local Storage
The majority of your data, including extracted check items and calculations, remains stored locally in your browser. This data is not transmitted to our servers.
Server Processing
Only the image you upload is temporarily sent to our backend service for processing. We:
- Transmit the image securely using encryption
- Process the image through the Google Gemini API to extract text and item information
- Delete the image from our servers immediately after processing is complete
- Do not store, archive, or retain copies of your uploaded images
Third-Party Services
We use the Google Gemini API to process images and extract check information. When your image is processed:
- The image data is shared with Google solely for the purpose of text extraction
- Google's processing is subject to their privacy policy and terms of service
- We do not share any other personal information with Google
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit
- Immediate deletion of images after processing
- Regular security assessments of our systems
Data Retention
- Images: Deleted immediately after processing
- Local Data: Stored in your browser until you clear your browser data or cache
- Technical Logs: Retained for up to 30 days for troubleshooting purposes
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Choose not to upload images to our Service
- Clear your browser data at any time to remove locally stored information
- Contact us with questions about our privacy practices
Children's Privacy
Split a Check is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
