This Privacy Policy describes how Blank Slate Labs, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Split a Check mobile application (the “App”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Photos of Restaurant Checks

  • What we collect: Photos of restaurant checks/receipts that you choose to upload
  • How we use it: Photos are processed to extract itemized bill information
  • Storage: Photos are temporarily stored on your device and transmitted to our servers for processing only. Photos are not stored on our servers and are deleted immediately after processing

2.2 Device Information

  • What we collect: Basic device information such as device type, operating system version, and app version
  • How we use it: To ensure app compatibility and provide technical support

2.3 Subscription Information

  • What we collect: Subscription status and transaction IDs through RevenueCat integration with Apple App Store and Google Play Store
  • How we use it: To manage your subscription and provide premium features

2.4 Usage Analytics (Future Implementation)

We may collect basic usage analytics in future versions to improve the App experience. If implemented, we will update this policy and notify users accordingly.

3. How We Process Your Information

3.1 Photo Processing

  • Photos are sent securely to our Cloudflare Workers service
  • Cloudflare Workers forwards the image to Google's Gemini API for text extraction
  • The extracted bill information is processed and returned to your device
  • No human review: All photo processing is completely automated
  • No storage: Photos are not stored on our servers or by Google's Gemini API

3.2 Local Data Storage

Extracted bill items, people you add, and bill splitting preferences are stored locally on your device only. This information is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We work with the following third-party services:

4.1 Cloudflare Workers

  • Purpose: Secure processing of photo data
  • Data shared: Photos (temporarily, not stored)
  • Privacy: Photos are processed and immediately discarded

4.2 Google Gemini API

  • Purpose: Text extraction from receipt photos
  • Data shared: Photos for processing only
  • Privacy: Google does not store or use your photos after processing

4.3 RevenueCat

  • Purpose: Subscription management and App Store/Google Play integration
  • Data shared: Device identifiers and subscription status
  • Privacy: RevenueCat follows their own privacy policy for subscription data

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties except as described in this policy.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:

  • All data transmission is encrypted
  • Photos are processed securely and not stored
  • Local data remains on your device under your control
  • We follow industry-standard security practices

6. Data Retention

  • Photos: Not stored on our servers (immediately deleted after processing)
  • Device information: Retained only as long as necessary for app functionality
  • Subscription data: Retained through RevenueCat as long as you have an active subscription
  • Local data: Remains on your device until you delete the app or clear the data

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Access and Control

  • You can view and modify all locally stored data within the App
  • You can delete the App to remove all local data
  • You can contact us to request information about data we may have collected

7.2 Opt-Out

  • You can choose not to use photo processing features
  • You can manage subscription settings through your device's app store settings

8. Children's Privacy

Split a Check is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:

  • Posting the updated policy in the App
  • Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
  • Sending a notification through the App if changes are significant

Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Geographic Scope

This App is available only in the United States. This Privacy Policy is governed by U.S. privacy laws and regulations.
